About Me

Pre-academic Background

Prior to joining academia, I worked as
  • an audit assistant manager at KPMG,
  • a senior associate in investment banking,
  • a grant assistant in the Development and Cooperation arm at the Delegation of European Union to China and Mongolia, and
  • a senior associate intern in sustainable agribusiness.

I received my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, and an MBA from Darden School of Business, University of Virginia. My passion for accounting prompted me to transition from engineering to financial services. Most of my clients at the time were in manufacturing, energy, and services—an experience that deepened my expertise in cost accounting. As an active CPA, I am open to teaching financial accounting, managerial accounting, and auditing, as well as writing cases. I have also assisted Prof. Luann J. Lynch at UVA in developing weekly quizzes and exams for two courses on Coursera (Financial Accounting Fundamentals and Managerial Accounting Fundamentals).

My work in the private sector enabled me to interact with senior management and observe agency problems, sparking my research interest in the role of accounting in incentivizing and monitoring executives. Last but not least, my deep interest in social equality and my work in the public sector have also ignited my curiosity toward the social responsibility of corporations and government.

I love backpacking and traveling

Places I have visited before my academic career.
(Many of my friends travel more after they become academics. I'm the opposite, unfortunately. Looking forward to a change!)
